I had a number of contenders for my property pick this week. There were two stunning contemporary homes with ocean views in Carmel and one completely renovated Carmel Valley rancher that may make the cut in future weeks. But as anyone who has followed my "Before & After" series, you'd know that I love a good project. So what really got me excited this week? A mostly untouched 1919 cottage on an oversized lot with ocean views! This property is located in the heart of Carmel-by-the-Sea, within half a block of Ocean Avenue and just a short stroll down to the white sand of Carmel Beach. The downstairs is also rare legal subordinate unit offering income potential. One could probably get about $1300/month for this studio with its own kitchen and bathroom. Priced at $1,450,000, it'll go fast. Mostly likely, I foresee a builder purchasing this home and tearing it down but you can be sure I'll be watching this one to see what happens!

Bill Mitchell dies at 83
If you never met Bill Mitchell, by all accounts, you should wish you had.
Mitchell, who died March 26, was a man who was decorated for his service as an Air Force pilot in Vietnam, went on to fly commercially for three decades, established what would become the Monterey Peninsula's foremost luxury real estate firm, gave generously of his time and resources — and amidst all of that, managed to squeeze every bit of fun out of life.
