Relationships Matter

Relationships are the most critical aspect of the real estate business.

Before I began my real estate career in 2007, I was a financial recruiter in San Francisco. During that time, the traditional brick and mortar recruiting industry was being threatened by the internet and newcomers such as Monster and Career Builder. It became increasingly obvious over the years that people matter more than technology. That you can’t replace personal interaction. That relationships matter.

In real estate the same is true. Technology increases productivity and makes data more available to homebuyers. The role of real estate agent has shifted in the last 20 years. Because technology has given everyone access to the same data points, today’s agents need to be market experts, be responsive 24/7 and be the trusted advocate and skilled negotiator our clients need.

My point, is that relationships matter. Relationships with buyers and sellers and with the community at large. The ability to match the right person to the right house. The ability to understand who your clients are, where they are coming from and what they need. Nothing can replace genuine relationships.

Established in 1913, Carmel Realty is the oldest brokerage on the Monterey Peninsula and has deep rooted local relationships. We invest heavily on various platforms to enhance the buying and selling experience, but we also focus on what matters most. Possibly our most popular ventures are our annual parties where we bring together our clients to say thank you for their loyalty and catch up during the AT&T golf tournament or Concours d’Elegance. I also recently hosted a reception Inside Carmel Valley. This was a fun event at my listing at 100 Via Milpitas that brought my network together to enjoy local art, food and wine.

Building on relationships, Carmel Realty continually fosters alliances with like minded brokerages around the world. Most recently, we finalized a partnership with Brown Harris Stevens Global, a premier brokerage in New York, the Hamptons, Miami and West Palm Beach.  We also enjoy a strong relationship with Pacific Union in the San Francisco Bay Area, where the majority of our clients come from. Another affiliation we are proud of includes Mayfair International of London, helping us reach a veritable melting pot of business icons and high net worth individuals. While our longest standing relationship is with Luxury Real Estate. Carmel Realty is on the Board of Directors, dictating policy and spearheading groundbreaking marketing to high net worth clientele all over the world. This website has the most traffic and the highest number of multi-million dollar properties. This also includes LRETV on Apple TV, where clients can search and view properties in their own living room.

Lastly, our relationship within the community is enhanced by the Carmel Realty Foundation, where we donate a percentage of every sale. The foundation is overseen by the Monterey Peninsula Foundation and supports over 150 local charities that are hand picked by our agents. In 2017, our agents contributed over $3.8M.

I was born and raised on the Monterey Peninsula. It’s the knowledge of history, perspective of experience and connections that I have fostered. It’s the relationships that matter to me. As I often tell my clients, I want them to feel like they are my only client. It’s not about getting one sale, but fostering a relationship that lasts a lifetime.

It was March, 2021 and a gorgeous four bedroom home on one of my favorite streets in Carmel Valley had just hit the market. I called my clients and the husband literally hoped on a flight the very next morning. He boarded a plane with only a cup of coffee in ...
