A Carmel Valley Cottage Transformation

I love working on my before & after blog series. I enjoy looking back on each and every one of my client’s stories. You may not believe it, but I remember the first moment I talk to each client like my father remembers every shot he took on the golf course! In this case, these buyers were referred to me by a long time family friend. I remember our first conversation like it was just yesterday. That was in July of 2012. They were a young family relocating from Sacramento for an exciting new job prospect.

From our first email exchanges gathering feedback on properties, it looked like Carmel Valley, Carmel and Pacific Grove had been identified as the preferred locations. After searching for about a year, referring them to a local lender and making a few offers, we finally found “the one”. It was a small two bedroom home that would do for now, but my buyers had grand plans to eventually expand and remodel. Luckily, the home was charming as-is and the valley views even better.

After about 6years living in the home, they hired local architect Gerry Case to design a 500sf addition and it took contractor Dan Poncabre about 1 1/2 years to make that vision a reality.

The heart of the transformation was the primary bedroom wing. This bedroom was so large they could just about cut it in half to create two bedrooms.

Plus, the lot is about 3/4 of an acre so they had plenty of space to expand the footprint to also create a luxurious bathroom.

The living room now also appears fresher and more current with a lighter paint color and light fixtures sourced from Serena & Lily.

They moved the dining area to what was being used as a study by the previous owners. The standout is a unique contemporary light fixture from Crate and BarrelCoupled with new gorgeous hardwood floors throughout, the home now feels like it belongs in a design magazine.

The hallway bathroom is a complete transformation with graphic wallpaper from Serena & Lily and custom window shades.

This december marked this family's 8th year celebrating the holidays in their home. It’s always a pleasure welcoming wonderful people to our special Peninsula.

Wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday season.

It was March, 2021 and a gorgeous four bedroom home on one of my favorite streets in Carmel Valley had just hit the market. I called my clients and the husband literally hoped on a flight the very next morning. He boarded a plane with only a cup of coffee in ...
